There's been some
recent buzz about a meteoroid that hit us last Tuesday. Basically, for the first time, an object this small (2m) was detected significantly in advance of its hitting the atmosphere, allowing prediction of the time and point of impact. Unfortunately, it hit over the middle of nowhere northern Sudan at 5:30 in the morning, and apparently no one on the gound has reported sighting it (a shame, since it should have been amazing).
But apparently the one-kiloton flash was captured by at least one weather satellite.
